Gender inequality isn’t a small issue and it’s an issue that’s been going on since the beginning of human existence. Women have been seen as houseworkers and moms who shouldn’t be allowed to have jobs that are “fit for a man” or participate in activities that women aren’t capable of doing as efficiently as a male. Women still aren’t recognized for the work that they do. Women still aren’t given opportunities that they have the right to acquire. Women still aren’t seen as equals. Women have been fighting to be given some type of support, equality, and respect that a male is given. Many people disregard women related issues because they say there are topics much larger, but the truth is sexism and gender inequality are just as important as racism and homophobia. No one is born without certain human rights because of who they are, how they look, or what genitals they have. Everyone deserves the same rights and to live their lives doing the things they want to do. Politics is a region or an area in which we see vast amounts of gender inequality. There was a time in which women couldn’t vote because a women’s vote “doesn’t matter” or “isn’t important.” Then gender inequality lessened, but hasn’t been truly been eradicated. According to Rutgers Eagleton Institute of Politics, in 2018, 110 women hold seats in the United States Congress, comprising of 20.6% of the total 535 members in congress (https://www.cawp.rutgers.edu/women-us-congress-2018). The amount of women in congress is much less than that of men. Even though we’ve made progress in regards to the fact that women couldn’t vote and now there are some in congress, we clearly still see unjustified inequality, not saying that inequality can be justified. Toxic Masculinity
Young boy's are told to 'be a man' but what does being a man mean?
They are told how to dress, what emotions to show, even how to move.
Men are told that they have to provide for the family
Protect their family at all costs.
Being a “good man” means you have to be heterosexual,
You have to take care of your family
and you must have an acceptable job.
Being a male you have to deal with people telling you that men don't do this
Men don't do that.
That's too feminine
Or you're dressed like a 'sissy' excuse my language
is that really how it should be?
Should young boy's are told what sports they should play,
Colors they should like
Gender they should love?
Boy's don't cry, those are the systematic lies the spin you
. They tell me I'm gay if I hug my friend,
wear a pink tie or let my hair grow out past my eyes.
That's a mess. You never see in the media things about men commiting suicide,
They act like killing yourself is some type of women's lie.
None of them are woke...
Young boy's keep commiting suicide, Feeling lonely inside,
Trapped in a world of wasps preying on their insides.
Bad boy's win the girls phone, stop believing these lies.
God, that's the stigma of being a man. ~ Nevaeh

“Strength, Courage, Mastery, and Honor are the alpha virtues of men all over the world.” Manhood is seen as an important aspect of a males’ life, and rather it be by family or peers, toxic masculinity is commonly and unconsciously enforced upon men at a very young age. For example, a father might raise his son with “tough love” and teach him what a man should be. In the future, although he is financially stable to support a family, as a father he is emotionally detached from them. He is too prideful to admit when he's wrong and he believes he is superior to many. Down the road he becomes egotistical; placing his needs and wants above his family. These things not only harm their relationship with family but with friends as well. Society has what is seen as the norms of masculinity, a “heterosexual representation” of men. You must be strong, emotionally stable, a provider, independent, brave...etc. following the norms to be masculine can control the confessions men make when feeling anguished and how they decide to seek help. This leads to men having poorer mental health because they tend to cut off from any type of social support. Suppressing their emotions can start leading to depressive symptomatology and violent outbursts. Thus the overall results of toxic masculinity leads to self destruction and is a cultural concept of manliness which should be erased... “Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.” (Tamia)
Traditional Gender Roles:
Gender…
What you identify as or what you don't identify as.
Simple as that?
Wrong.
It's bigger than that.
Everybody born is assigned a gender, male or female.
That gender is like a big red stamp defining who you are and what you're going to be.
Every gender comes with baggage, and that's where it gets complicated.
24 People feel like because women deliver babies,
They MUST be domestic,
Raise them 24/7,
Can't get no job cause' they got pregnant?
Men are told they have to be tough,
Protecting their young,
And men can't have fun,
How screwed up is that…
I'm only spitting society facts.
Girls are told we have to fit this stereotype, I
t's wrong to be chubby,
It's wrong to have short hair,
It's wrong to have broad shoulders,
It's wrong to be flat chested,
It's wrong to be me.
Men are told every day it's wrong to be too short
too tall
Too skinny
or can't play ball,
To be like this or like that.
Sometimes they tell you it's wrong to even associate with
'That'
Men should be officers,
Lawyers
and astronomes.
Women should be nurses,
Daycare workers,
or Stay at home moms.
God… why is this fed to our young?
Each gender has a role but nobody can tell you which are right and which are wrong… ~Nevaeh

Women and Politics
Man-litics.
A fair number of men think women can't handle politics,
That's probably why there's no woman in office.
That's probably why Trump our illiterate president can degrade women
Treat them like a piece of garbage.
Politics and women never is fair.
They treat the woman like a child,
Just for something they can use for stares.
Yeah politics was started by a man
But you could at least give your girl a chance.
Feminists pushed for women to vote Now why can't we push for women to have a seat at the table,
For women to have a voice
For women to be able.
For women to be treated equally at the job they worked twice as hard to snag.
I don't mean to brag.
How dare HE tell some of our best congresswomen to go back to their countries
When his wife isn't even American?
Hypocrite.
The first women's rights convention was in 1848
Yet we're still looking for a change.
A woman won the popularity vote but the electoral college voted her out…
What, how?
Is it because of the scandals
Did she just not appeal,
She just wasn’t the real deal?
No, she just wasn't like every other man in office. ~Nevaeh
To add to my point about gender roles, and stereotypes have you heard that song that had all that nerve…A popular Asian rapper going by the name of "San E" (산이) wrote a song back in 2018 by the name of Feminist? When the song dropped it started an uproar people called him a misogynistic piece of garbage and things along those lines. Now when you first hear the song and look and the lyrics you may also want to accuse him of those horrible accusations but after doing my own research I disagree.
Feminist was told in the eyes of two very different people, a feminist, and a misogynist. San E was only the voice but he was telling a story in the word's of the narrator the misogynist. I believe the song initially was based off of the record-breaking video by Joyner Lucas “I'm Not Racist,” which was told in the eyes of a Caucasian male with very strong beliefs and the other side, an African American male with his own set of beliefs. The song was also received very negatively in some aspects but in others it was loved.
Back to San E though, not told in his point of view his words each came out like a match being thrown into a pool of gasoline. Each line was very thought out and smart, I must say.
In the first verse San E starts by saying,
"I am feminist
I believe that women and men are equal
See I said women first
Like how mom comes first in mom and dad
I read one book
What's personal is political
They are touching words,"
First off you see HE (the narrator) introduces himself, starting off saying small things that really have no large effect on society but still matter for women. "The Personal is Political" line comes from the second wave of feminism back in the 1960's when women and men who supported the 27 act used that to rally, with that as their slogan. On to the next verse is where the two narrator's start to clash heads…
"Women have always been oppressed
Us men have always oppressed them historically
But I don’t understand those who say women and men aren’t equal right now
If my grandma says it I might
But what inequality have you faced in your life?"
The narrator makes it clear that he believes women are oppressed but he is also saying that women are not oppressed anymore. He is saying the world is now equal, but is it really? He is right on one thing though, a lot of feminists claim to be harmed by society but really, what has society done to them? I totally am not trying to bash feminists but I am analyzing the two sides of this heated debate.
"You’ll probably say among OECD countries
Korea has a gender pay gap of blah blah blah
F*cking fake fact
Hey if you want those rights so bad why aren’t you going to the military?
What do you want more we gave you your own space in the subway, bus, the parking lots
Oh girls don’t need a prince
Then pay half for the house when we marry I’m no f*cking prince"
This is about were the drama stirred, first off OECD countries are basically democratic nations that support free market economies. Korea is an OECD country much like America and guess what they both struggle with…. Equal pay amongst both genders. The narrator has now gone on a rant about the 'lie' we are told when it is very clear of the huge pay gaps in Asia where men are favored. Then the narrator degrades women like jokes saying women already received enough.
"I have a lot to say too
Men are victims of Confucianism too
Did I make that (Confucianism)? Did I
Sister why mad?
blame system
Not men I am feminist
l am feminist"
So the narrator then speaks on Confucianism which is a state of life created by K’ung Fu-tzu, a Chinese scholar. Basically Confucianism talks about the basic virtues of life dealing with religion. Which he is right men were also victims of the religious practices. He then proceeds with this idea he is feminist even though the entire time he speaks on mostly misogynistic things.
"I support the #MeToo you know that right? Director, Kim his actors etc. They make all men get the hate But Honestly Take out those extreme cases You do everything under consent then why do you MeToo? Are you a gold digger? They must be happy selling their bodies and getting money Men become criminals under this fucked up law We withstand reverse discrimination without saying a word Ministry of Gender Equality stop doing stupid shit For healthy feminists We first need to get rid of misandry"
#Metoo is a movement against sexual assault and violence. Director Kim was accused of assaulting an actress/actor, it wasn't specified. Yes, men may be getting a little bit of excessive hate now of days from the scare but isn't it needed? Women getting raped, assaulted and sold in too many cases. A lot of people were baffled at the choice of words "You do everything under consent," when many women and men are being assaulted every single day by strangers, relatives even co-workers. It isn't right for men to be discriminated against for past men's actions but is it right to hear a man say we consent to assault? Misandry is real but it shouldn't be dealt with like this, the same for misogyny. Misandry is not feminism.
"Womad And the Corset Free movement l won’t stop them but They all blame the men for it When did we ever say You needed to be pretty? You did plastic surgery for your own satisfaction Now you’re being childish going no bra and not shaving your armpits Cutting your hair short And now you think that makes you a woke progressive woman?"
"WOMAD is a radical feminist online community based in South Korea" according to Wikipedia. They deal with radical woman problems but have been criticized for their harsh ways, showing harmful videos towards men. The Corset Free movement is to end the standard. Many women in Korea are underweight and have unrealistic body standards so this movement is to end that as a whole and celebrate all women. When women don't look good it is shown they are not as likely to receive the same job as their more beautiful counterpart so that is when it was shown that women have to be pretty. Women are trying to embrace their natural beauty instead of forcing themselves into a box of self-hatred.
"Equality sex? Nah that’s your inferiority complex man I like long hair don’t change And I am feminist I’m on the women’s side don’t hate women Actually I love them too much that’s the issue You and my mom, my sisters I respect them as they are I’m not one of those losers that you see in news articles I don’t scream swear or do date violence I totally admit the fault of men Now for the day when you can freely roam at night in Gangnam Let’s cheers See I’m different? It’s okay, I’m not dangerous I’m different trust me It’s okay I am feminist"
See, he is portraying like an old TV show but instead as a feminist where they used to say offensive things about black people and then counter it by saying things like "Oh well my brother's wife's, step cousin is black." Which seemingly makes everything okay. It doesn't. He tried to apologize for all the terrible statements he made before turning the other cheek. He tries to make himself actually seem caring assuring yes he is feminist. I must also add that there is a huge problem in Korea with date violence happening and not being handled.
Yes Feminist is a highly talked about song that caused an uproar but some of the points he makes seem to be true. Others not as much, it is really all based off of his opinions on real topics. Him being the narrator not San E. I don't want anyone to hate me but I think San E should be cut some slack. All artists tell stories in their writing, his just felt personal. (Neveah)
